Share your amazing story
What do you do in a five minute break? Make a cup of tea? Surf the net? Update your Facebook status... or how about share an amazing story with others?
At Firm Foundations 2012, we want to celebrate how God has used the festival to transform lives. Do you have a life-changing story to tell? Perhaps you got baptised after FF? Or felt able to give something that was upsetting you to God after hearing a speaker or being prayed for? Or maybe FF was a much needed break in the middle of exam stress? No story is too small or insignificant... so don't be afraid to share it.
We're compiling a video to show during one of the worship sessions and we want YOUR story to be a big part of it. Please can YOU send a short video clip of YOU (and if you are a leader, your young people too) answering the question - how has God used FF to transform your (or your young people's) life and faith? It's as easy as 1-2-3 and should only take five minutes.
- How? You can do this on your webcam or get someone to film you on your phone, camera or Flipcam.
- Important things to remember? Please don't talk for more than 40 seconds and try to make sure that you're in a bright, quiet place.
- How do I send it to you? Once you've completed it, email claire.rush@girlsbrigadeew.org.uk and she'll help you send the file via the Internet. We'll try our best to include all videos if possible.
We need to have the video clip before Friday 25 May 2012 so please do it as soon as possible. It would be great to have your stories and will be such a testimony of how amazing our God is.
Even if you can't come to the festival this year, this is a fantastic way to still be involved.
We need as many young people and leaders as possible to help us. Please make a FIVE minute break count.

Get involved with Firm Foundations
Firm Foundations needs passionate men and women who are up for a challenge and want to get involved with this year's festival.
If you've already booked to attend the last-ever Firm Foundations, then there are plenty of ways you can get involved...
- Hosting V1 worship throughout the weekend - GB's Esther Generation Project Facilitator Claire Rush and BB leader Matt Legg will be hosting V1 throughout the weekend but are looking for enthusiastic young women to join them on the journey for one or two sessions. They'll provide some equipping and mentoring.
- Taking part in V1 worship - Is your GB/BB/church group coming to FF? Would you like to do a drama, mime, Bible reading or prayer that fits into the theme? Do you have any other ideas?
- Co-host a workshop - Claire is facilitating two workshops during FF on media and culture - one for girls and one for leaders. Would you like to help her? You'll work together to plan, facilitate and lead the workshop(s) and you'll have an amazing opportunity to use your experiences to equip others.
- Be part of the GB Oasis team - Oasis is the chill-out area for young women in the My Space tent and it enables them to relax, have a giggle and ask whatever questions they want. Meg Howard, GB's KOKO Co-ordinator, is looking for young women (older than 18 years old) to help run the area. You'd need to feel comfortable starting conversations with strangers and be able to paint nails or straighten/curl hair with GHDs. You'll only be needed for one or two hours a day.
- Join the Hear 4U team - Every year, the Hear 4U team is available to anyone who would like to chat or needs prayer after worship. This amazing team is always willing to listen and has helped countless numbers of people over the years. Do you have good listening skills? Do you feel a calling to pastor and care for others? The team is looking to mentor younger leaders, aged over 18, in this very special gifting. Will you take a leap of faith?
Claire says 'I would love to see you involved in FF2012 - you can use your gifting to make it the best yet. Will this be the year that you take up the challenge to get more involved?'
Anyone who would like to learn more about these exciting opportunities should contact Claire on claire.rush@girlsbrigadeew.org.uk or via 01235 510425.

Firm Foundations - the Final Fling
Regular attenders at Firm Foundations will be aware that over recent years we've seen a gradual reduction in numbers attending the festival.
At the end of January we were again concerned about the low level of booking for 2012 and so contacted BB/GB Companies by text, email and telephone - we're grateful for their positive responses which led to the decision that the 2012 festival will go ahead. Plans are shaping up very well with an excellent programme - including a celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
However, we've been unable to ignore the fact that, for many reasons, the numbers attending have continued to decline and it's becoming increasingly difficult to run the festival at a reasonable cost to our visitors.
After prayerful thought and consideration, both BB and GB have reluctantly agreed that Firm Foundations 2012 will be the final Firm Foundations. The festival has been operating for more than 20 years and God has been good to the event - many people, both young and old, have had their lives changed or their faith renewed through attending.
As this is the last Firm Foundations, it's likely more people will attend either for the whole weekend or just for the day. So the Planning Team can make the necessary arrangements, please can you ensure that your bookings are submitted as soon as possible. The late fee of £10 will NOT be applied to any bookings.
At some point in the 2012 festival we'll take time to give thanks to God for all that has been achieved through Firm Foundations and seek His guidance for the future.
It's sometimes the case that one door has to close before another one opens. To that end, we must pray about the needs of young people and trust God's work through new ventures will come onto the horizon - and that people will be empowered to respond to whatever those opportunities might be. We'll welcome any suggestions from festival-goers and non-festival-goers as to what we can provide to support our membership in the future.

Announcement: Lantern Theatre Company and Rory Malone
We are pleased to announce the following artists who will be performing at Firm Foundations 2012:
Lantern Theatre Company will be bringing their performance of "Dangerous Journey" to FF on the Sunday. Dangerous Journey is a modern adaptation of the Pilgrim's Progress, an allegory of the Christian life by John Bunyan. Christian is challenged to follow the path of faith and leaves his wife and family to set out on a journey with all the ups and downs of faith. Some try to persuade him to give up but he struggles on. Others join him for a while and then fall away. He struggles through doubt, is tempted in Vanity Fair, encouraged in the Palace Beautiful and finally arrives at the Celestial City. Join Christian and all his companions in this all-new, fast paced, Olympicified version of the Pilgrim's Progress.
Rory Malone will be performing on the Sunday evening at FF2012. He is aged 19 and hails from New Zealand, where he has lived for the past 15 years, but was born in Lincoln. Rory is currently one of the busiest gigging Christian teenagers in the UK and has been opening for bands such as Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects and has been selected to perform at the Olympic games the summer.

Andy Kind appearing at FF2012
Comedian Andy Kind has been confirmed to appear on the Saturday evening at Firm Foundations 2012.
From Andy's website:
"Andy Kind is a professional stand-up comedian. He has been part of the comedy circuit since January 2005. In that time he has performed all over the country, winning awards and acclaim as he goes. Since winning Anything for Laffs, he has gone on to be recognised as one of the warmest and most engaging comperes in British comedy.
Described by The Scotsman as 'terrific' and by BBC online as 'a future star', Andy has been featured on BBC1, ITV, Channel 4 and national radio. In addition, he has been asked to support the likes of Tim Vine and Milton Jones on their national tours.
Andy is also a published author, with his first book (Stand Up and Deliver) published by Monarch Books in April 2011. His next book, Grandad, was due to be finished late on in 2011.
Andy's comedy blends joyful exuberance with the playful ranting of a man on the wrong side of 30. Add to this a love of ad-libbing and super-strong stage presence, and you have the prospect of a great night's entertainment."
You can follow Andy on Twitter at @andykindcomedy or check out his Facebook fan page here. You can also check out Andy's website at www.andykind.co.uk.

Tuning in to the word of God
Around 750 people attended this year's Firm Foundations (FF) and learnt how the Bible is still relevant today.
The festival, organised jointly by BB and Girls' Brigade England & Wales, took place over the spring bank holiday weekend at Felden Lodge, Hemel Hempstead.
'It was a brilliant weekend,' says Eric Hudson, on behalf of the Festival Planning Team. 'The Holy Spirit was definitely at work and it was exciting to see so many young people giving their lives to God or developing their relationship with Him.'
The theme for the event was 'Tune in to the message' - based on Bible verse 2 Timothy Ch.3:16 'Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another - showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way' (The Message).
The event focused on showing how Jesus, through the Bible, has relevant things to say on current issues and encouraged young people to explore their Bibles regularly.
Many young people took steps of faith throughout the weekend and enjoyed action-packed worship sessions led by singer/songwriter/speaker and author Shell Perris, BB officer Matt Legg, evangelist Mark Greenwood from 40:3 Trust and Phil Knox, Missions Resource Manager for Youth for Christ and BB officer.
The weekend also offered a wide range of inspiring seminars and numerous sporting activities from canoeing and archery to football and abseiling.
There was also a vast array of entertainments including a 'silent' disco called Ministry of Silence, talent show, quizzes, worship workout sessions and an innovative competition called Campsite Come Dine With Me.
A new venue called PLAY offered festival-goers a place to play on game consoles, chat or watch films and Christian bands GoldDigger, Sounds of Salvation, Fire Brand and Empire Nation were among those who wowed the crowds over the course of the weekend.
Eric adds 'There were lots of activities on offer over the weekend and it was great to see these so well supported. People also had lots of time to relax and socialise.
'Plus, we were really blessed by the dry weather - there was hardly a welly boot in sight!'
Check out some comments from the weekend below...
'It was my first FF this year and I loved it. It was amazing and I will definitely be coming next year.'
'It was an amazing year at FF and has brought me so much closer to God - amazing worship, amazing friends and just all together unforgettable.'
'Our boys loved every minute of it and didn't want to go home.'
'I hope that everyone who found God this year at FF will continue in small steps to bring Him into their life. God is amazing. Come on!'
'Our girls loved the whole event and they haven't stopped talking about the Ministry of Silence. Everyone thought that was great!'
'FF was awesome. Can't wait for next year.'

Prayer for Firm Foundations
Firm Foundations is less than two weeks away now, we hope that plans for your journey are coming together well and you have received all the information. We ask that you pray for the weekend and remember inparticular the following:
- Everyone attending that God would prepare their hearts and minds to be challenged and encouraged in their relationship with Him.
- Those people speaking at meetings as they prepare what to say, that God would inspire and guide them in their thoughts.
- The various teams as they finalise programmes and draw together all the things they need to make their venue or activity work well.
- All the bands and other kinds of guest artists that God would us their gifts to speak into people's lives.

May Update
In preparation for the Festival, the Site Team has been working at Felden since Sunday afternoon. Work has been going well and preparations are currently in advance of schedule. The Site Team have been monitoring the weather forecasts and steps have been taken to ensure that the main venues are covered with matting thus ensuring they are fit for purpose. Whilst the grounds are wet, the event can be a success.
Participants are advised to consider carefully what equipment they bring including stout footwear and waterproofs. The grounds are being protected by preventing vehicles from driving over them and accordingly, and only pedestrian access will be allowed. Full information will be provided on arrival that gives details as to parking and wet weather arrangements.
The preparations are in place, the performers are booked and the staff are in place. Whilst it is wet, that is only the weather and not the atmosphere and spirit of those that make a Festival a success. We look forward to seeing you on Friday and ask that you remember those participating and the mission of the event in your prayers.
Eric Hudson (Chairman Festival Management Group)
